Short answers to what players often ask about the market. For the whole story, see The market and Selling to the bank.
Why can I order goods when none are for sale?
EditBuying on the market is an order, not an instant purchase. You pay when you place it, and at the next update it takes whatever is for sale then, oldest first. That includes goods that were Coming soon when you ordered and goods other players put up in the meantime. Whatever is not filled is refunded in full at that update, and the order shows in red on the Orders page.
Why was my order only partly filled?
EditEither there was not enough of the good for sale at the update, or some of it had only just come up for sale. From goods that have been for sale for less than 30 minutes, one order can take at most 25% of all of that good for sale (at least 250 units). The rest of your money comes back at the same update, and you can order again.
Can I cancel an order?
EditYes, until the next update: cancel it on Buy goods or on the Orders page and you get all your money back.
I put goods up for sale. Why are they not on the market?
EditGoods take 60 to 120 minutes to appear for sale. Until then they count as Coming soon. Your own goods for sale, and their place in the queue, are under My goods on Buy goods, where you can also take them back.
When do I get paid for goods I sold?
EditWhen a buyer's order takes them, at the next update after it. You get the market price of the moment the buyer ordered: 10% goes to your company's stockpile for your shareholders' dividends and the rest to your savings. On goods you had bought on the market yourself, that 10% is lost as a market fee.
Why can I not buy more of a good today?
EditEach good has a daily limit: 2,500 units, plus 2,000 for each of your factories that uses it and 1,000 for each of your shops that sells it. Only buildings placed on the map count, a construction site included. The Purchase limit column on Buy goods shows what is left today. You can also place only one order per good every 60 seconds.
Can I set my own price?
EditNo. Everything trades at the day's market price, the same for every company. Nobody can sell cheaper to get ahead of the queue: buyers take the goods that have been for sale longest.
Why did a price go up or down?
EditPrices change once a day, at midnight. A good made less than the average over all goods gets dearer, and one made more gets cheaper, by up to three steps. Buying and selling during the day do not move prices. Calculation of market prices shows what tonight's change looks like so far.
Can I buy back my own goods?
EditNo, but you can take goods you put up for sale back into your warehouse under My goods on Buy goods. They lose their place in the queue.
Should I sell to the market or to the bank?
EditThe market pays the full market price but you wait for a buyer. The bank pays at once, but takes off a discount while there is a lot of the good on the market, and then puts the goods up for sale itself. See Selling to the bank.
Do I need vehicles to get the goods I buy?
EditNo. Bought goods go straight into your warehouse. Each trade also leaves cargo on its route, which anyone's vehicles can carry for pay: see Vehicles and cargo.
Is there anything back for goods my factories use?
EditYes. 20% of what you paid on the market for goods your factories then use comes back as a purchase bonus at midnight, up to £2,500 a round. See Taxes and bonuses.
What happens when my warehouse is full?
EditA full warehouse stops your factories. Goods over its capacity cost £1 per unit every hour and make your staff unhappier. Sell or use goods, or buy a warehouse upgrade on My warehouse.
What are locked goods?
EditGoods you have set aside: your factories and shops leave them alone, so they are not used up or sold. They still take room in your warehouse.
