Short answers to what players often ask about company value and bankruptcy. For the whole story, see Company Value and bankruptcy.

What is company value?

Edit

Company value (CV) is your score. The company with the highest CV when the round ends wins, your C-rank is your place by CV, and your Career points come from it. It also sets how much the bank will lend you, and your share price moves with it. Every company starts with 5,000, and the front page shows yours.

How is company value worked out?

Edit

It is a running score, not a price for what your company owns. Money moves it: every £20 you earn adds 1 CV, and every £20 you spend takes 1, rounded up. On top of that come points for work done, such as 1 for each unit your factories make. Your buildings and the goods in your warehouse are not valued as such, and goods left over when the round ends earn nothing.

What raises my company value?

Edit
  • Making goods: 1 for each unit.
  • Selling in your own shops: 1 for each unit, as well as the money.
  • Selling goods you made on the market, which earns the sales bonus (see Bonuses).
  • Money coming in, from any sale, dividends or office work.
  • Deliveries by your vehicles, and investing at the bank.
  • Placing a new building on the map.

Fines and negative savings take it away again, so avoid them.

Do my savings count towards my company value?

Edit

Not while they sit there. Money adds CV when it comes in and takes it away when you spend it; the balance itself is not counted again. Investing at the bank turns savings into CV at 1 for every £20, without the usual spending loss, and whatever is left in your savings when the round ends is invested for you. Money in the salary and gasoline accounts is not (Savings and investments).

Why did my CV drop when I put money in the salary account?

Edit

A deposit into the salary account counts as spending. When it goes through at the next update, it takes 1 CV for every £20, rounded up, like any other spending. Wages paid from the account later cost no more CV, so you pay that CV once, earlier. The gasoline account works the same way, and money left in either account when the round ends earns nothing, so don't put in much more than you need.

Why did my CV fall when I ordered a building?

Edit

Ordering a building is spending, so it takes 1 CV for every £20 of its price at once. When you place it on the map, 10% of its price is added to your CV. Vehicles and warehouse upgrades add back a smaller part, while zones and building upgrades cost no CV at all. Demolishing a building or selling a vehicle loses a little.

Do loans raise my company value?

Edit

For a while. Borrowed money counts as money earned, so it adds 1 CV for every £20, and each down payment is spending that takes it back. Over the life of a loan you lose about the interest's worth of CV, so a loan pays off when what you do with the money, such as a new factory, adds more than that. A higher CV in turn lets you borrow more (Loans).

Why did my CV fall overnight?

Edit

Most often because your savings went below zero. In the early hours the bank clears negative savings and takes 1 CV for each unit of currency you were short, far more than the usual 1 CV per £20, and your staff's dissatisfaction rises 50% at the next midnight. Loan down payments at midnight, fines and, in some rounds, the weekly wealth tax are spending too. Keep enough in your savings before midnight and before payday.

Where can I see what changed my CV?

Edit

Under Company information, Transactions › Company value lists every change in the last week, In and out › Company value gives the totals by kind, and Changes shows it day by day. Your secretary's letter each midnight compares the day with the one before, and the chart on the front page shows your CV over time.

When does a company go bankrupt?

Edit

At the next update after its company value falls below 1. The usual cause is spending more than you earn until your savings go below zero, often through loan payments, which the bank then covers from CV during the night. Keep a margin in your savings, or sell goods to the bank in time (Selling to the bank).

What happens to a company that goes bankrupt?

Edit

It is wound up:

  • its buildings come down, and its land goes back on sale 5 to 10 hours later;
  • its staff leave, and others can hire them 5 to 10 hours later;
  • the bank takes over its goods and sells them on the market, and its waiting orders are refunded;
  • its own shares become worthless, and the shares it held pass to the bank;
  • the bank writes off what is left of its loans.

Your secretary writes to tell you, and Bankruptcies under Info lists the company.

Can I start again after my company closes?

Edit

Yes, at once, on any day of the round. Start your company tells you what happened to the old company, and you found a new one with new starting money (£7,500). It needs a new name, as the old one stays taken for the rest of the round. A company that closed gets no result or career points for the round; only the one you are running when it ends does.

How do I reset my company?

Edit

Open Settings, go to the Company tab and press Reset company under Resetting your company. Your company closes with everything it owns, as in a bankruptcy, and you can found a new one straight away. You must pay off your loans first, and resets are limited to 1 in any 24 hours. A reset can't be undone, and Bankruptcies lists the old company as Resetting of profile.

Will my company be closed if I stop playing?

Edit

Yes, once you have stayed away for 11 days (21 days for VIP members). Any visit counts, so looking in now and then is enough. A closed company is wound up like a bankrupt one and shows as Inactive on Bankruptcies. While you are away, your shares turn orange and then red for other players, and wages, loan payments and fines still fall due.
