Founding your company

How to start a company in a round: its name, home city and speciality, what each one changes, your starting money, and why you run one company at a time.

  5. One company at a time

To play in a round you found a company on the Start your company page (New company in the menu until you have one). It takes three steps: the name and speciality, the city, and a last check. All three stay for the whole round, and nothing is paid until you press Start your company.

Name

Edit
  • 3 to 15 characters: letters, numbers, spaces and & ' . -, starting with a letter or number.
  • It must not be taken this round. A name stays taken for the rest of the round, even after its company has closed, so nobody else can use it.

Speciality

Edit

You choose one of seven branches, each named after its raw good. Factories that make one of the branch's goods, and shops that sell any of them, produce 10% more. Offices never get the bonus.

Speciality Goods in the branch Its raw-goods factory
Cotton cotton, thread, clothes Cotton field
Fresh fish fresh fish, frozen fish Fishing fleet
Oil oil, plastic, gasoline, toys Oil drill
Pigs pigs, sausages Pig farm
Stone stone, marble Quarry
Wheat wheat, flour, alcohol, bread Wheat field
Wood wood, paper, planks, furniture, newspapers Forest

The tutorial suggests your speciality's raw-goods factory as your first building. See Production chains for what each good is made from.

Home city

Edit

Pick a city from the list or on the map, or press Random city. For the city you pick, the page shows its population, its companies, factories, shops and offices, the zones bought and the employees at work, the average savings and company value of its companies, and its vehicles. Show list of all companies in this city and Show table over all cities help you compare.

What the city changes:

  • Every building you own goes in this city, for the whole round.
  • Factories and shops earn the same anywhere: goods sell on one market for every city.
  • Fewer companies leave more free zones next to roads, where buildings make 30% more (Land and zones).
  • Offices do best in a busy city with few other offices (Offices and services).
  • Busy cities have more cargo for your vehicles (Vehicles and cargo).

Starting money

Edit

Every new company gets £7,500. Registering it takes £5,000 of that: £2,500 opens your salary account, which pays your staff, and the rest opens your gasoline account, which pays for fuel. What is left is your savings.

The company starts with a Company Value of 5,000 and holds all 50 of its own shares. Your first factory takes most of your savings and its staff cost money to hire, so the tutorial has you raise money first, by selling some of your own shares or taking a loan (Your first day).

One company at a time

Edit

You can run one company at a time. If it goes bankrupt, is closed for inactivity or you reset it, you can found a new one at once, even on the last day of the round. It gets new starting money and needs a new name (Company Value and bankruptcy).

To reset, use Resetting your company under Settings: your company closes with everything it owns, and you can start again. Resets are limited to 1 in any 24 hours.

Founding a new company turns the tutorial back on, even if you hid it before.

  • Your first day A first day step by step, as the tutorial takes you through it: raise money, build and staff your first factory, sell its goods and buy shares.
  • Game time and updates How game time works: game days are real days, the world updates every few minutes, what happens on the hour, at midnight and each week, and whether you need to be online.
