Upgrading buildings
The three building upgrades, when a factory or shop can take them, what they cost and what limits apply.
Updated
Factories and shops can be upgraded twice, once they have made or sold enough. Each upgrade lasts for the rest of the round.
The three upgrades
Edit| Upgrade | What it does |
|---|---|
| Efficiency +20 | Adds 20 points to the building's current and base efficiency, up to 100%. |
| Base production +50% | Raises the building's base points by 50%, rounded down. |
| Extra worker | One more place for staff. |
Each kind of building offers two of the three, so its two upgrades give it both. Buildings shows which two each building has. For what efficiency and base points do, see Production and efficiency.
When, and what it costs
Edit| Unlocks after | Costs | |
|---|---|---|
| Upgrade 1 | 1,000 units | £5,000 |
| Upgrade 2 | 3,500 units | £10,000 |
The units are everything the building has made this round (for a shop, everything it has sold). Upgrade 2 counts from the start, not from upgrade 1. Your secretary writes to you when a building has made enough.
Open the building to upgrade it. The Upgrade 1 of 2 panel shows how far it has got and, once unlocked, a button for each upgrade it can take, with the price. You choose which one comes first; the other is then upgrade 2. The money comes from your savings.
Limits
Edit- Only finished buildings can be upgraded, not construction sites.
- Offices can't be upgraded.
- Each upgrade can be installed once, and a building takes two at most.
- Upgrading doesn't change your company value.
- If you deconstruct an upgraded building, you get back 20% of what the building cost; the upgrades are not refunded.
- Upgrades don't stop ageing. After Efficiency +20 the building keeps ageing from its new, higher base.
Your warehouse is enlarged separately, on the Warehouse page.
